I saw Avatar in 3D recently with friends and enjoyed the experience so much that I insisted my family go along for a screening in the IMAX in Cardiff. The 3D CGI is nothing like anything I’ve seen before. It inspired me to try to recreate the look of the native people of the planet where the film is set. My sister posed for a couple of seconds while I took the basic shot on the left and then I worked to reshape the face, colour the skin and add various effects. I’m broadly happy with the results.

Hoorah! SG has decided to buy Jive’s set that we shot together in Prague last year.

This was the 8th and final set I shot in Prague as part of the SG trip. I was quite nervous at first because Jive was one of the few SGs I knew of beforehand (I’d been a lazy member). Jive suggested we go into the city to where she was staying, near the Staropramen brewery. We climbed out onto the roof and was amazed at the view we had. There were downsides to the location though; the roof was sloping and there was nothing to stop expensive camera gear/human beings rolling off the ends. I taped light stands to the chimney stacks in an attempt to make them stable. As the light faded over city it glowed warm and crisp before finally disappearing.

Today I went to my grandmother’s care home with my family to take some family portraits.

My sister who now lives in Australia is here in Wales for a month so it was a good chance to get all these people in one room. Here are 4 generations of my family together.

My grandmother is suffering with severe dementia and is unable to talk. Each time I visit I feel really sad. It’s a great care home though and there’s a spark of her former self in there somewhere.

Obviously, I took some sensible photos too…

For 45 years, people in my home town of Porthcawl have braved the chilly waters on Christmas day in the name of fun and charity. My grandfather was one of the group of people that started the tradition and today my family is involved with the organisation of the swim and everything that goes with it.

So this year I took my camera along to catch personal snapshots of the event as I helped out like usual.

A set featuring Viking I photographed for suicidegirls.com has been bought.

This set was shot in Prague this summer. It was great working with Viking and her idea. I was excited about the steampunk theme and am so glad that Viking trusted me to make it happen.

I had the honour of photographing the wedding of sexy, long haired Chris from Hunted and his beautiful fiancée Athena. I had previous experience of weddings having assisted at a number of them but this was my first time taking control, consulting and producing prints.
